State Intel MCP gives AI agents direct access to US state legislation across all 50 state legislatures, powered by the OpenStates API v3. Ask in plain language: “Track Indiana bills about short-term rentals” or “What property tax bills changed last week?” Your agent searches bills, reads action timelines and votes, finds legislators, and looks up committees and hearings — without a FiscalNote subscription.

Monthly billing

$5/month

Predictable monthly cost with included usage. Best for steady, high-volume traffic.

  • Unlimited tools within plan limits
  • One API key, billed once a month
  • Cancel any time

State Intel MCP helps you follow state legislation across all 50 US states, using official data from OpenStates.

Ask about any issue you care about — healthcare, education, taxes, environment, technology, labor, and more. Search bills, see where they stand, read vote history, find who sponsors them, and look up committees and hearings. Works with Claude, Cursor, and other AI tools that support MCP.

To watch for changes over time, ask your assistant to search again for bills updated since a date you choose. This service does not send email or text alerts on its own.

What you can do

Bills

  • search_bills — Find bills by keyword and state. Filter by session, sponsor, or date. See only bills that changed since a date you pick.
  • get_bill — Full detail: sponsors, step-by-step status, votes, and documents.

People

  • find_legislators — Look up legislators by name, district, or state.
  • legislators_by_location — Find who represents a place when you have a map location.

States & sessions

  • list_jurisdictions — List states and valid IDs.
  • get_jurisdiction — Details for a state, including legislative sessions.

Committees & hearings (availability varies by state)

  • list_committees / get_committee — Committees and members.
  • list_events / get_event — Hearings, meetings, and related bills.

Your AI assistant can also read built-in guides (state-intel://guide and state-intel://jurisdictions) for tips and state name references.

Example questions to ask your AI

  • “Find bills in Colorado about renewable energy.”
  • “What changed on Indiana healthcare bills since last month?”
  • “Show me the full history and votes on bill HB 1234.”
  • “Who sponsors this bill?”
  • “Who represents this address?” (after geocoding to a map location)

Who it's for

Anyone who wants to stay informed on state policy without expensive lobbyist software — advocates, journalists, small organizations, and curious citizens. Also useful for developers building AI apps that need legislative data.

This is a research tool on public records, not legal advice.

Data & fair use

Information comes from OpenStates, which collects data from official state legislatures. All 50 states are included; some states publish more detail than others (votes, committees, hearings).

Usage limits apply per subscription tier on MCPize. Each question to your assistant may count as one or more lookups against daily limits.
