Give your AI agent Reddit posts and comments back to 2008 by UTC date window and keyword, not just the newest ~1,000 posts Reddit's own listings return. Pick subreddits, an optional keyword and a UTC date window; get posts and, if you want, their comment threads as clean rows. Useful for RAG corpora, research datasets and backfills.

Tools

  • get_subreddit_history: posts of 1-5 subreddits between after_date (inclusive) and before_date (exclusive), newest or oldest first, optional minimum score, up to 100 per call.
  • search_subreddit_archive: posts that contain a keyword inside those subreddits and dates.
  • get_threads_with_comments: up to 10 posts with up to 50 archived comments each.

Example prompts

  • "Collect the first 100 posts of r/Python from March 2015, oldest first."
  • "Find r/Python posts about asyncio from January and February 2019."
  • "Get five r/LocalLLaMA threads from last June with their top comments, so I can summarise what people complained about."
  • "Which r/FragranceClones posts mentioned 'dupe' in 2024 with a score of 5 or more?"

A real result, shortened (get_subreddit_history, r/Python, 2015-03-01 to 2015-03-02, oldest first, run on 2026-10-27)

type: post, id: 2xj0um, title: "Top 15 Sites built with Python", subreddit: Python, score: 1, created_iso: 2015-03-01T03:37:25+00:00, plus selftext, author, permalink, url, domain, flair and flags.

Fields

Posts: id, title, selftext, author, subreddit, score, upvote_ratio, num_comments, created_utc, created_iso, permalink, url, domain, link_flair_text, is_self, is_video, over_18, locked, stickied, spoiler. Comments: id, post_id, parent_id, link_id, body, author, subreddit, score, created_utc, created_iso, permalink, is_submitter. Every row has type, so (type, id) is a unique key.

Limits

  • A subreddit is required: the archives cannot search all of Reddit by keyword.
  • Coverage and freshness depend on the public PullPush and Arctic Shift archives, with automatic fallback between them. If both fail or a cursor stalls, the call errors instead of handing the agent quietly partial data.
  • At most 5 subreddits and 100 posts per call (10 posts with comments). For longer backfills, call again with the window moved past the last created_iso, or run the Apify actor for up to 500,000 posts: https://apify.com/benthepythondev/reddit-archive-scraper
  • Typical call time: 4 to 60 seconds.

FAQ

Do I need a Reddit API key or login? No. You connect with your MCPize key only; no Reddit app, OAuth key or cookies.

Can I get more than Reddit's ~1,000 newest posts? Yes. Pick a UTC date window and move it forward call by call; the archives reach back to 2008 for large subreddits. Coverage varies by subreddit.

Does it replace subreddit RSS after November 13? Partly. Reddit ends RSS feeds on 13 November 2026 with no replacement. For a watch, call get_subreddit_history with sort newest and an after_date of the last day you read. Archive freshness depends on PullPush and Arctic Shift; for live posts use the Reddit: Posts, Search, Comments & History server.

What does a call return and how long does it take? Rows of posts or comments, each with a type, id, author, subreddit, score, created_iso, permalink and text. A call takes 4 to 60 seconds.

What happens when the archive is down? The server falls back between the two archives. If both fail, the call returns an error instead of partial rows. Whether a failed call counts against your monthly allowance is MCPize's metering, not something we control.
